Out of My League

As I sat here listening to the song "Out of my League", I came to realize how much I feel that way sometimes, especially with school. I look around me at school and sit in almost disbelief that I'm there. I often ask myself "Can you believe it? You're actually going to school at BYU!".

Each time my mental response is the same; I can't. I can't believe I'm at a school where the gospel is in EVERY subject. I'm at a school where the academic opportunities are said to be some of the best in the country. I'm at a school where almost all around me share the same values I do. I'm at the school where, my whole childhood, I attended games with my dad and cheered on my Cougars in blue. I'm at the school where I thought I would never go because I had lived near it my whole life and wanted to get away, but the school I instantly fell in love with as I attended my first day of classes.

Is it hard? Yes. But is it worth it? Unquestionably. So many things (mostly myself) tried to convince me I couldn't make it, that it wasn't where I wanted to go, but I made it, and I wish I could explain the disbelief and joy I feel each time I stop to think about my experiences here. I don't know how to explain in words the little miracles I have witnessed and the tender mercies I have received. Nothing could have been better for me at this time in life. Nothing could take it's place.

There are so many things in life we have to be grateful for, especially the simple things; the tender mercies. So many times in my life I have been given just that little push I've needed to get through the hard times. Has my life really been that hard? No. Has it felt like it has? Yes. But it is in these times we come to find who we truly are and where we truly stand. Hold strong, the storm will soon pass.
